Manual Testing

Eh! Developer is lying – the bug is reproducible

Many a times we come across some issues which we call as machine specific issue or a developer says it’s not reproducible.
These issues are often not reproducible on other than the computer we are working with. Often these are just because of different settings within the operating system which we generally neglect and keep on struggling to reproduce the issue on other machines. Such issues rarely turn out to be an application specific, rather most of the times they come across as operating system or because of user specific settings within the operating system.
Programing is creativity, respect the creativity and give programmers the credit for basic intelligence and thought implementation.

  1. In my view, whether these are machine specific issues, the developer still need to handle those issues, either by showing error messages or handling them by redirection process.

It is a joint effort of developer and testers to find the cause of the defect. We all really need to understand that the developers and testers are not enemies or competitors. They are only there to help each other in developing a Quality product.

  2. Indeed, you are absolutely right. Even the article suggest to report the issue even if any of the aforesaid points, solves the issue.

The intent of reporting is to make sure that such issue should not occur in production (with end user), be it any settings on customer’s PC application should work as intended and in case such settings are not supported, application should inform the customer about it rather then breaking.

So, work together “neither as a tester nor as a developer, however work as a stakeholder. As it is said and believed by Google guys.

“Quality is not equal to test. Quality is achieved by putting development and testing into a blender and mixing them until one is indistinguishable from the other.”
